Dehradun, 10 Mar: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal today expressed heartfelt gratitude to party workers for making the ‘historic gherao’ of the Assembly building at Gairsain a success while raising issues related to the problems faced by the common people of the state.
Godiyal asserted that Congress workers had gathered in thousands at Gairsain, described as the capital envisioned by the martyrs and agitators of the statehood movement, to protest against what he termed the anti-people policies of the government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He said the enthusiasm shown by party workers in assembling in large numbers to oppose the policies of the ruling BJP had sent a strong political message.
Godiyal claimed that the manner in which Congress workers from across the state converged at Gairsain reflects the growing public discontent against the BJP government. He alleged that the anti-people policies and what he described as undemocratic and authoritarian functioning of the government would eventually be answered by the people of the state by handing over the reins of Uttarakhand to Congress with a clear majority in the coming elections.
The Pradesh Congress chief further asserted that thousands of Congress workers had reached the venue from different corners of the state and carried out the historic gherao of the Assembly to send a warning to the Dhami government. Expressing his gratitude to the party workers who participated in the protest in large numbers, he said that after the recent gherao of the Lok Bhawan (Raj Bhawan), the Assembly gherao at Gairsain had demonstrated the resolve of Congress workers to intensify the political struggle against the BJP government in the state.
Godiyal added that the participation of party workers from across Uttarakhand has shown that the Congress cadre has made up its mind to dislodge the BJP from power. He said that in the 2027 Assembly elections the people of the state would get relief from what he termed as the authoritarian style of functioning, anti-people policies and misgovernance of the BJP government. He also reiterated that the long-standing aspiration of the martyrs and agitators of the Uttarakhand statehood movement to see Gairsain functioning as the capital of the state would eventually be realised.
