GBPUAT VC briefs Gov on upcoming Inter-University Sports Meet

Dehradun, 18 Feb: Prof (Dr) Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, today, paid a courtesy call on Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) at the Lok Bhawan, here.
On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the Governor in detail about the Uttarakhand State Inter-University Sports Meet scheduled to be held from 23 to 26 February 2026 at the University campus in Pantnagar. He stated that, during a previous meeting of Vice-Chancellors convened by the Governor, directions were issued to organise regular sports competitions in state universities. It was in compliance with those directions that this event is being organised.
He further stated that more than 1,700 athletes from 11 state universities across Uttarakhand will participate in the competition. Along with athletics, events such as volleyball, football, kabaddi, and kho-kho will also be organised.
The Vice-Chancellor also stated that there is a possibility of a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the University’s Convocation Ceremony scheduled to be held in March. Considering this likely visit, grand preparations are being made for the convocation ceremony.
The Governor said that, through sports, youth can bring laurels to the state and the country at national and international levels. He emphasised that universities should focus on providing better sports infrastructure and training facilities for the development of sports talent. He expressed hope that such competitions would not only promote healthy competition among universities but also play a significant role in the holistic development of students.
