PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have greeted people on the eve of the Independence Day. In his message, the governor said that the dream of independent India was realised only due to the indomitable courage and sacrifice of freedom fighters. He said that India has resolved to become a developed nation by 2047 and everyone should work to achieve this goal. The Governor said that despite adverse geographical conditions, Uttarakhand is continuously moving on the path of development. “There are immense possibilities in areas like Yoga, Ayurveda, apiculture, aromatic plants and the wellness industry. It is our shared responsibility to convert these natural and cultural assets into economic opportunities by making proper use of them,’’ he said. The Governor said that tourism is an important pillar of the State’s economy. He said that Uttarakhand faces challenges like natural disasters from time to time but despite this, the disaster management system of the State is always ready for any challenge. Expressing grief for the people who lost their lives in the recent natural disaster in Dharali and Pauri, he said that this challenge of disaster has tested us once again. In his message, Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a very sensitive State in terms of disaster and this year disasters in Dharali and other areas have affected the day to day life in the State. Expressing his deep compassion towards the disaster affected families, the CM said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the personnel of Army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and other government departments are engaged in relief and rescue operations with dedication and courage. He said that the State government has increased the grant to the family members of the martyred soldiers. Dhami added that the State government has taken a decision to provide 10 per cent horizontal reservation to the former Agniveers. The CM averred that the State government has a vision of growth due to which Uttarakhand has succeeded in creating a unique identity for itself in the country. Uttarakhand is the first State in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and work on projects worth Rs two lakh crore is underway in the State. He said that continuous efforts are being made in Uttarakhand to conserve cultural heritage of the State. Dhami said 16 ancient temples in Kumaon region are being developed under Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission. A centre of Hindu studies has been set up in Doon University for study of Indian culture, philosophy and history.
