By Sunil SonkerMussoorie, 9 Jan: A significant initiative has emerged to address the serious problems faced by transport operators, including taxi and maxi cab operators in Uttarakhand regarding vehicle fitness. A delegation of the Uttarakhand Taxi Maxi Federation, led by its state president Sundar Singh Panwar, submitted a memorandum to MP and Minister of State Ajay Tamta at the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways office in Sunheri Bagh, New Delhi. The delegation informed him that despite the automatic fitness centres not being fully established in various districts of the state, the manual fitness process has been stopped at the transport offices, causing thousands of taxi and maxi cab operators to face economic and administrative difficulties. Vehicle owners are facing significant problems, especially in the hill districts, due to the distance to fitness centres and the lack of resources.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, Minister of State Ajay Tamta immediately spoke to the Union Transport Secretary, B Umashankar, over the phone. The main demand raised during the conversation was that, until automatic fitness centres are fully operational in all 13 districts of Uttarakhand, the fitness process should continue at the transport offices as before. In addition, Tamta also spoke to the state’s Transport Secretary, Brijesh Kumar Sant, Additional Transport Commissioner K Singh, and Deputy Transport Commissioner Sunil Sharma over the phone and requested a letter detailing the discontinued procedures at the transport offices and the problems arising from them, to be sent to the Government of India. It was stated that upon receiving the letter, the Union Transport Ministry would take a quick decision on the matter and find a solution.
On behalf of the federation, State Media In-charge Yashveer Singh Panwar said that the promptness with which the Minister of State has taken cognizance of the problem has given hope of relief to thousands of transport operators in the state. The federation expressed its gratitude to Ajay Tamta and wished him a bright future. During the submission of the memorandum, State President of the Federation Sundar Singh Panwar, Deepak Bhatt, Yashveer Singh Panwar, Naval Kishore, Thakur Singh Bisht, Beer Singh Rana, Mukesh Kharola, Ganesh Jang Thapa, and other office bearers and members were also present.
