PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that in today’s rapidly changing world, the relevance of Gurukul education has increased. He averred that values, discipline and a balanced lifestyle along with modern knowledge is essential for the all-round development of children. The CM was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the first Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam at Patanjali Wellness Yoga Gram, Aurangabad village, Haridwar on World Ayurveda Day on Wednesday. Congratulating Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, the CM said that they have contributed in the fields of Yoga, Ayurveda, education, research and public health. He said that India’s Gurukulam tradition has been the foundation of knowledge, values, discipline and character building for thousands of years. “In Gurukulams, students are taught not only the art of living but also the responsibility towards society. True education is that which liberates a person from ignorance, fear and narrow-mindedness and develops his or her personality holistically,’’ he said. The CM expressed confidence that Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam will become a powerful medium for spreading the Indian knowledge tradition to the new generation. Dhami said that the National Education Policy-2020, implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, places special emphasis on skills, innovation, Indian knowledge traditions and the holistic development of students. He said that modernity and tradition are not opposites but complementary to each other. The CM added that the young generation, which embraces modern knowledge while connecting with its roots and heritage, can face future challenges with greater confidence. He said that the Centre for Hindu Studies has been established at Doon University to promote the study and research of Indian knowledge, traditions, philosophy and culture. The CM averred that rapid progress is being made to promote science, research, and innovation in the state. He claimed that in addition to creating a conducive environment for start-ups and innovation in the state, special attention is also being paid to equipping youth with skills relevant to future needs. He said that the State government is continuously striving to develop Uttarakhand as a major global centre of tourism as well as knowledge, Yoga, Ayurveda and spirituality. In his address Swami Ramdev said in the Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam, the Sanskrit scholars will also be able to do BAMS. Acharya Balkrishna said that the Central government has given special recognition to Sanskrit students, giving them the opportunity to become Ayurveda doctors. Cabinet minister Madan Kaushik, MLA Adesh Chauhan, Ravi Bahadur, Swami Yetiswaranand, Golden Baba, Swami Bhu Dev and others attended the programme.
