PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Haldwani The Nainital district administration and police have stepped up security in Vanbhulpura and other parts of Haldwani in view of the Supreme Court hearing slated to be held on December 2 in the Vanbhulpura railway land encroachment case. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the administration and police are focusing on ensuring that the law and order situation is maintained in the area. District magistrate Lalit Mohan Rayal chaired a video conference with officials of the Police, Railway, municipal corporation, Forest department, UPCL and other departments concerned to finalised coordinated arrangements and action. The senior superintendent of police Manujath TC stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to affect the law and order situation or obstruct government work after the hearing of the matter in the apex court. The authorities will deal sternly with anyone found gathering illegal arms and similar resources, he warned. The SSP directed that intense checking, verification campaign and increased patrolling must be ensured in the region while the social media cell has also been directed to remain alert. Unnecessary statements on social media which may affect the atmosphere will also invite strict action. Stating that the Nainital police is prepared to deal with any situation, the SSP said that the police have adequate force, helmets, lathis, body protectors and other equipment. Nobody will be allowed to violate the law or disturb the law and order situation, he stressed. Following the SC directions on December 2, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) will also maintain a strict guard in the area. Immediate action will be taken against any person who obstructs government work or tries to prevent any seizure action, officials said. The SSP also appealed to the public to accept the decision of the SC and also cooperate in implementation of the order. The administration and police are fully committed to maintaining peace and order, he said. It is pertinent to mention here that about 5,000 families are likely to be affected by the court verdict in the Vanbhulpura railway land encroachment case.
