Harish Rawat terms UCC as attack on Sanatan Dharma | my uttarakhand news

Dehradun, 27 Jan: The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has completed one year of implementation in Uttarakhand today. While the state government is celebrating the day as UCC Day today, the Opposition is reacting sharply over the UCC. While the Dhami government marked the occasion with programmes highlighting the achievements of the code, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat today launched a strong attack on the BJP. He described the UCC as an attack on Sanatan Dharma. Reacting from Delhi, Rawat said it made little difference how much the BJP praised itself over what it termed a historic achievement.
In Dehradun, the state government today organised a large-scale event to commemorate the first anniversary, where Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed officials and beneficiaries. Dhami said the day would be recorded as a golden chapter in Uttarakhand’s history, noting that on January 27, 2025, the UCC was dedicated to the people of Uttarakhand with the objective of establishing equality and social harmony. He reiterated that Uttarakhand was the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code.
On the other hand, despite the government’s claims, Rawat today questioned the intent and the priorities of the Dhami administration. He also commented on the Badrinath-Kedarnath controversy related to possible restrictions on the entry of non-Hindus. Rawat alleged that the BJP lacks answers to real and the pressing issues. Rawat said the ruling party has no positive agenda to place before the public and is instead resorting to divisive narratives. He alleged that the government remains silent on serious concerns such as rising migration from Uttarakhand, inflation, unemployment, corruption and the deteriorating law and order situation, and is therefore focusing on restrictions and diversionary subjects to deflect attention from governance failures.
