SRINAGAR GARHWAL, 21 Feb: The six-day capacity building programme on “Integration of Indian Knowledge Traditions into the Curriculum,” conducted under the aegis of MMTTC at the Academic Activities Center of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, concluded from February 16 to 21. Chief Guest Pawan Sinha “Guruji” of Delhi University and Vice-Chancellor Shriprakash Singh formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
In his address, Chief Guest Pawan Sinha clarified the relevance of the Indian knowledge tradition in the contemporary context, stating that the true foundation of self-reliance, sustainability, and capacity building lies in our indigenous knowledge tradition. Citing examples, he explained that indigenous technologies, such as cryogenic technology, not only empowered India scientifically but also earned it global respect. He added that indigenous research and technological capabilities proved crucial in addressing challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indian knowledge tradition teaches reuse, environmental balance, and holistic development of life. He cited the ancient Gurukul system, Panchkoshi development, women’s freedom, democratic traditions, Kautilya’s political science, and the interrelationships between Vedanta and modern science, stating that this tradition is not merely a past glory but a guiding vision for the present and future. The aim of education is not merely information, but the development of character, wisdom, and national consciousness.
In his presidential address, the Vice-Chancellor expressing his gratitude to all the distinguished guests and stated that such events strengthen the university’s academic vision and provide an opportunity to establish meaningful dialogue between traditional knowledge and contemporary thinking. He spoke on several topics of the Indian knowledge tradition and said that today there is a need to understand the ancient Indian perspective of academic research.
On this occasion, Dean Mohan Singh Panwar, Chauras Campus Director Rajendra Singh Negi. Dean of Student Welfare OP Gusain Amarjeet Parihar addressed the participants. UGC Observer RL Narayan Simha delivered his address in Sanskrit. Finally, Rahul Kunwar thanked all the guests and participants. Ninety five teachers and research scholars participated in this programme and were awarded certificates on the last day.
