
CM hosts vibrant Holi Milan with folk performances at official residence

Dehradun, 2 Mar: A Holi Milan ceremony was organised at the Chief Minister’s official residence here today with traditional enthusiasm and cultural dignity. The celebration reflected a harmonious blend of colours, music and folk traditions, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended warm greetings to the people of the state and stated that Holi is not merely a festival of colours but a celebration that conveys the message of mutual trust, brotherhood and social harmony. He observed that the cultural diversity of Uttarakhand is its strength and that such events serve as an important medium to connect the younger generation with the state’s traditional legacy.
The premises of the CM’s residence were immersed in festive colours from the forenoon as groups of folk artists and cultural troupes from across the state arrived singing traditional Holi songs. The gathering witnessed vibrant performances representing Garhwal, Kumaon and Jaunsar regions. Traditional singing echoed through the venue, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of dhol and manjira, while the melodious strains of indigenous musical instruments further enhanced the festive atmosphere.
Jaunsari artists also captivated the audience with the energetic Harul dance, besides a traditional rendering of Holi songs by a team of Kumaoni Holiyars. A cultural troupe from the Rath region of Pauri district also added vibrancy to the celebration with their spirited presentation. Songs such as “Aao Dagadiyo, Nacha Gava, Aa Gayi Rangeeli Holi” resonated from the Kumaon side, while artists from Rath region presented “Aayi Dandyu Basant, Dali Ma Maulyar”, filling the air with the essence of spring and festivity.
Ministers, MLAs, senior government officers, media persons and people from various walks of life were present on the occasion. They conveyed Holi greetings to the CM and exchanged wishes in the traditional manner by applying abeer and gulal to one another. The event witnessed participation from both common citizens and prominent personalities, all of whom appeared immersed in the colours of folk culture. Dhami himself was seen fully participating in the celebrations and was momentarily drawn to join the artists in their rhythmic performances, reflecting the spirit of the festival in its true sense.
Speaking to the media persons informally on this occasion, Dhami observed that the state government remains committed to the preservation and promotion of Uttarakhand’s folk culture, regional languages and traditional arts. He emphasised that the cultural heritage of the state constitutes its distinct identity and preserving it is a collective responsibility. The celebration reflected not only festivity but also the unity and cultural richness that lend Uttarakhand its unique character.
Folk artists from various parts of the state expressed happiness at being specially invited to perform at the CM’s residence. They stated that the CM has been undertaking commendable work for the promotion of folk culture and that the state government is extending support and protection to traditional artists.
