PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered the suspension of Home Guards director (deputy commandant) Amitabh Srivastava with immediate effect on Saturday following serious irregularities found in the purchase of uniform materials. As per the findings, items worth about Rs one crore in the market were shown in records as costing nearly Rs three crore. The case is linked to the procurement of uniforms during the financial years- 2024-25 and 2025-26. According to the investigation, rules were ignored during the tender process and purchases were made at highly inflated prices. For example, a cap costing Rs 130 in market was shown to have been purchased for Rs 375. A pair of shoes with a market price of Rs 500 were bought for Rs 1,500. Similarly, pant-shirts costing Rs 1,200 were purchased for Rs 3,000 while jackets priced at Rs 500 in market were bought for Rs 1,580. According to official sources, these figures clearly pointed to large-scale manipulation in the tender process. Following the exposure of the scam, uniform purchases were stopped in 2025 and a joint inquiry committee was formed to conduct a thorough probe and fix responsibility, official sources said. Importantly, the scam had come to light after PVK Prasad had assumed charge as the director general of Home Guards. When a file related to uniform purchase for the year 2025-26 had come for approval, he had grown suspicious and compared the tender rates with market prices and noticed huge discrepancies. Subsequently, he had ordered an internal inquiry. The inquiry report submitted by the director general confirmed a lack of transparency and serious procedural violations in the tender process. Based on this report, the CM approved the suspension of the director, Home Guards and ordered a detailed investigation.
