DEHRADUN, 27 Dec: On Saturday, Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Professor of IIT Bombay paid a courtesy call on the Governor, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), at Lok Bhavan. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of the indigenous AI initiative “Bharat–Gen”, developed under the guidance of the Professor. On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of Doon University Surekha Dangwal, was also present.
The Governor said that Artificial Intelligence is a revolutionary and transformative step for India. He stated that AI and modern technology are powerful tools through which the goal of a Developed India can be realized. The Governor added that “Bharat–Gen AI” would prove to be a historic initiative in providing India with global leadership in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
Lt Gen Singh emphasized that it is extremely important to connect AI with India’s cultural heritage, knowledge traditions, and roots. He said that the deep logical structures present in the Vedas, Puranas, the Sanskrit language, and the Indian knowledge tradition appear to naturally align with modern computing and Artificial Intelligence. Through “Bharat–Gen AI,” Indian knowledge will gain a new and empowered form when integrated with modern technology.
The Governor also appreciated the simple, clear, and detailed presentation given by Ganesh Ramakrishnan on various aspects of AI. He stated that the core objective of “Bharat–Gen” is to make every Indian not just a consumer of technology and AI, but also a creator. He said that as long as we remain only consumers of technology, we will not be able to fully understand its functioning, impact, and potential. He emphasized that a combination of curiosity towards AI, a desire for change, and a positive outlook is what truly accelerates innovation.
