Dehradun, 5 Dec: Acting on directives issued by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Directorate of Information today took several key decisions concerning the welfare and dignity of journalists. The decisions were finalised by the committees constituted under the chairmanship of Director General of Information Bansi Dhar Tiwari.
A meeting of the Journalist Welfare Fund (Corpus Fund) and the Chief Minister’s Journalist Honour Pension Scheme Committee was convened at the Directorate of Information, chaired by Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari. After examining the cases placed before it, the committee recommended sanctioning financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each from the Journalist Welfare Fund to the dependants of fifteen deceased journalists. It further recommended the approval of Rs 5 lakh each for the medical treatment of two journalists suffering from serious ailments.
The committee also proposed the grant of a monthly pension of Rs 8,000 to four senior journalists under the Chief Minister’s Journalist Honour Pension Scheme. On the occasion, DG Information Banshidhar Tiwari observed that in keeping with the State Government’s commitment, the Information Department is taking swift action on matters related to the welfare and honour of journalists. He emphasised that sustained efforts are being made to extend all possible assistance to journalists in distress and to their families, and that regular committee meetings are being organised to dispose of cases with complete sensitivity.
Joint Directors of the Information Department KS Chauhan and Nitin Upadhyay, Senior Finance Officer Shashi Singh, and committee members Laxman Singh Negi, Girish Tiwari, Amit Sharma and Shashi Sharma were also present during the meeting.
