Jawan commits suicide by hanging in ITBP Academy, Mussoorie


By Sunil Sonker Mussoorie, 10 Feb: Tragic news has emerged from the ITBP Academy in Mussoorie. An ITBP Jawan, on duty from the Pithoragarh unit, committed suicide by hanging himself in his residential room. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Mussoorie Kotwali police arrived at the scene and initiated necessary legal proceedings. Mussoorie police reported that, on Tuesday, the ITBP Academy in Mussoorie informed them that a Jawan on duty had committed suicide. Upon receiving the information, police immediately arrived at the scene.
During the investigation, the deceased was identified as Constable Chetram Meena (38 years old), son of Ram Phal Meena, resident of village Bhaubta, Post Baswa, District Dausa, Rajasthan. Constable Chetram Meena was currently posted at ITBP Mussoorie and was originally posted at Unit 14, Pithoragarh. He hanged himself with a thin nylon rope from the window latch of his room. The police team arrived at the scene and conducted photography and videography. The body was then taken down from the noose and transported via ambulance to the Sub-District Hospital, Mussoorie, where further legal procedures are being completed.
During the investigation, ITBP officials informed the police that the soldier had returned to Mussoorie from Pithoragarh for duty approximately two months ago. They also revealed that Constable Chetram Meena had attempted suicide in Pithoragarh in July 2025, after which he received treatment and counselling. Currently, the police have initiated the post-mortem examination of the deceased’s body. The police say that every aspect of the case is being investigated and the family has been informed. The incident has caused an outpouring of grief at the ITBP camp.
