Haridwar, 26 Dec: Kabuli Devi Upadhyay, 105, the oldest woman in Haridwar’s Missarpur village, passed away this afternoon. Her son, Madan Upadhyay, shared the news, saying she was the village’s oldest woman and had been in perfect health until yesterday. Her health deteriorated slightly today, and she passed away at home in the afternoon. Her death has sent shockwaves through the village.
Her family included a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Her son performed her last rites at the Missarpur cremation ground with Vedic rituals. He explained that she had voted in the last assembly elections, the Lok Sabha elections, and the district panchayat elections. She was fully alert and had a perfect memory. “She ate normally, eating the same food all ate at home. She told us not to harass anyone, to respect everyone, and she also kept proper financial accounts,” her son recalled.
He explained that they were four brothers and three sisters. Manish Upadhyay, grandson of the 105-year-old Kabuli Devi Upadhyay, said, “Our grandmother was very healthy, loved us very much, and taught us the best. We can never forget her.”
They said that their grandfather had passed away 30 years ago, and for those 30 years, their grandmother had been taking care of the entire family. Aarti Saini, a national Wushu martial arts player and national self-defence coach from the village, said that some people in the village called her grandmother, some called her grandmother, some called her aunt, and some called her aunt or uncle. She loved everyone very much.
