Kainchidham Bypass to be made operational by 15 June: Satpal Maharaj

Bhimtal, 9 Feb: Nainital district is continuously moving forward on the path of development. The State Government is consistently implementing various development schemes on the ground. Claiming this, State Cabinet Minister of Public Works, Tourism, Irrigation, Panchayati Raj, Rural Construction, Watershed, Religious Affairs, and Culture, Satpal Maharaj, reached the Vikas Bhavan here and laid the foundation stone of four Public Works Department schemes worth Rs 945.99 lakh, while one Public Works Department scheme worth Rs 312.13 lakh was inaugurated. Thus, a total of five schemes worth Rs 1,258.12 lakh were inaugurated and had their foundation stones laid.
He stated that action is being taken to strengthen Panchayats in the state by transferring 29 subjects listed under the 11th Schedule in accordance with the 73rd Constitutional Amendment. Construction of new Panchayat buildings and renovation of old Panchayat buildings is underway across all districts. He said that the Government is paying special attention to road connectivity in the state. So far, 14,027 new villages have been connected to the national mainstream through road connectivity, which is a significant step toward rural development.
He further stated that under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Home Stay Development Scheme, more than 5,000 home stays have been registered so far, while 1,118 beneficiaries have already availed benefits under the scheme.
Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj held a public interaction session at the Development Building auditorium and conducted a department-wise review of ongoing development works in the district. During the review of the Public Works Department, he directed that to make travel easier, smoother, and safer for devotees and tourists visiting Kainchidham, the Kainchidham Bypass construction must be completed by 15 June. He instructed that if there is a possibility of delay in the construction of the 75-metre span bridge, arrangements for a temporary Bailey bridge should be made so that the bypass road is made operational by 15 June under all circumstances.
Keeping in view the increasing traffic pressure on district roads, he directed that proposals for widening important roads be submitted to the Government on a priority basis. He also instructed that roads should be constructed in accordance with the movement of heavy vehicles to prevent premature damage and that special attention be paid to quality in hot-mix works.
During the review of the Irrigation Department, he said that the Irrigation and Minor Irrigation Departments play an important role in the development of hilly areas. He directed that damaged gools (water channels) and canals be repaired on a priority basis. He also instructed that encroachments on the Bhimtal–Naukuchiatal canal be removed promptly with the cooperation of the district administration. He directed preparation of proposals to prevent soil erosion from Dhungsil Hill in Bhimtal, removal of silt and debris accumulated in lakes, rivers, and ponds, and procurement of modern machinery for scientific and efficient channelization of rivers.
During the review of the Panchayati Raj Department, he directed that proper waste disposal should be ensured from villages to headquarters. He instructed the use of compactors for waste management, public participation in cleanliness drives, and strict action against those dumping garbage at public places.
During the review of the Tourism Department, he directed that all operational home stays must have clean toilets and special attention be given to sanitation. He added that the Government is working toward increasing the number of rooms under the Home Stay Scheme.
During the meeting, MLA Sarita Arya, District Panchayat Chairperson Deepa Darmwal, BJP District President Pratap Bisht, and others presented issues related to their respective areas and offered important suggestions.
