PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Haridwar Landslide from the Mansa Devi hill blocked the Haridwar-Dehradun railway track on Monday morning. The track remained blocked for hours and was finally cleared in the evening. The landslide debris blocking the tracks disrupted railway services for some hours, causing major inconvenience to travellers. Various trains were halted for hours at different railway stations due to the track being blocked by the landslide debris. The resulting rise in the number of travellers waiting at Haridwar railway station caused some anxiety among the people. On receiving information about the incident, the railway engineering department personnel reached the site. Mechanical excavators were deployed to remove the debris from the tracks. Government Railway Police superintendent of police Aruna Bharti informed that the debris blocking the track affected the operation of Vande Bharat Express, DLS and other important trains. The debris were cleared and the operation of trains was restored on the track by evening. There were no human casualties reported due to the landslide. It is pertinent to mention here that landslides are being witnessed frequently in the Mansa Devi area for some time now. This is a cause for concern for the local residents, the Railways and the district administration. Observers opine that the authorities tend to act in a reactionary mode, taking action after disasters occur, while ignoring the causes of disasters- like encroachments- which are common public knowledge.
