PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar passed away in a tragic aircraft accident near Baramati airport on Wednesday morning . The aircraft, a Learjet 45XR (registration VT-SSK) operated by VSR Ventures, was on a scheduled flight from Mumbai to Baramati in connection with official and public engagements ahead of the forthcoming local body elections. The aircraft met with an accident while attempting to land near Baramati. As per information released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), all five persons on board lost their lives in the incident. The deceased included Pawar, two pilots, and his security personnel. Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft experienced technical difficulty during the final approach, resulting in loss of control and a crash off the runway, followed by a fire. Emergency response teams, including fire services, police, and medical personnel, were immediately deployed to the site. However, there were no survivors. Pawar (aged 66) was a senior and experienced political leader with significant contributions to Maharashtra’s governance and cooperative sector. He served as Deputy Chief Minister on multiple occasions and was the leader of the NCP faction aligned with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In 2023, he led an organisational split within the party and subsequently joined the ruling alliance, assuming responsibilities in the state cabinet.
