Mahila Cong holds protest in Doon, seeks Modi’s resignation over Epstein files

Dehradun, 2 Mar: The Uttarakhand Mahila Congress today organised a protest march in Dehradun demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Hardeep Puri over what it described as serious allegations relating to references allegedly made in the alleged Epstein files. The protest was led by State Mahila Congress President Jyoti Rautela.
A large number of Mahila Congress workers gathered at the Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters at Congress Bhawan. From there, under the leadership of Jyoti Rautela, they marched through Gandhi Park, Ghantaghar and Paltan Bazaar to Tehsil Chowk and back to the state Congress office. During the march, several protesters wore specially printed attire bearing the words “The PM is Compromised”, and raised slogans demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Union Minister.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Jyoti Rautela claimed that reports alleging references to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in the Epstein files are extremely serious and a matter of grave concern. She stated that, if there had been any mention of their names in such documents, the complete truth must be brought before the people of the country. She claimed that the issue was not confined to individuals alone but was linked to the dignity of the nation and India’s credibility at the international level. She further claimed that maintaining silence or withholding facts in such a sensitive matter would be contrary to democratic values.
Rautela further stated that the State Mahila Congress demands a fair and time-bound investigation into the entire matter. She asserted that until the inquiry is completed, both leaders should, on moral grounds, step down from their respective positions. She also called upon the Union Government to issue a clear statement before Parliament and the people of the country on the issue.
She emphasised that transparency and accountability must remain paramount in public life. If the name of any individual holding public office arises in controversies of such nature, she said, it has been a democratic tradition to accept moral responsibility and relinquish office. The public, she added, has the right to know the truth and to ensure that its representatives remain above suspicion.
Among those present in the protest march were Mahanagar President Urmila Dhaundiyal Thapa, State Mahila Vice-President Asha Manorama Sharma, General Secretaries Nidhi Negi, Sushila Sharma and Anuradha Tiwari, Devendra Kaur, Rekha Dhingra, Bhawna, Tehri District President Asha Rawat, Shivani Thapliyal, Uma Panwar, Anita Saklani and several other Mahila Congress office-bearers.
