PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun  A gas agency owner was shot dead at Tibetan market in the heart of Dehradun city on Wednesday morning, the fourth murder in the district within a fortnight. The shot man was taken to the Government Doon Medical College hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors. The police have identified the victim as Arjun Sharma. According to the police, his wife Abhilasha Sharma has filed a complaint at Dalanwala police station against Vinod Uniyal, Sangita Uniyal and Ajay Khanna. The police have registered an FIR in the matter. A close friend of the victim has claimed that the murder was committed due to a property dispute between Sharma and Vinod Uniyal. Shortly after the incident, Garhwal inspector general of police Rajeev Swaroop reached the crime scene. He said the incident occurred at about 10:30 AM, when Sharma was shot by unidentified attackers. The forensic team also reached the spot and collected evidence.  After this, the IG held a meeting with all police circle officers and instructed them to take strict action in their respective areas. Teams have also been formed to arrest the accused at the earliest. Strict checking has been started in all areas. According to sources, the incident happened when Sharma was returning after playing tennis at the Parade Ground. After that, he purchased fruits near the Tibetan Market. The accused came from behind on a two-wheeler and shot him. His close friend, Rajeev Yadav, who used to play tennis with him, said that the victim had earlier submitted a complaint to the Dehradun senior superintendent of police regarding threats he was allegedly receiving from Uniyal, but no action was taken. There was also a property dispute between him and his mother, and a civil case is pending in the court. Both parties had filed FIRs against each other in this matter. A family friend said that Sharma has two children and owned a gas agency on GMS Road. He had been playing tennis near Parade Ground every day for many years. It was part of his daily routine. The attackers may have received information about his movements and possibly followed him for days before killing him when they found the right opportunity.The place where the murder occurred is considered the core area of the city with the secretariat, police headquarters and other important offices too located within a couple of kilometres. The Press Club is situated across the road along with schools nearby. Shopkeepers in the market expressed fear, saying that criminals are no longer afraid of carrying out crimes in crowded places with this being the fourth murder in the district within a fortnight.
