Dehradun, 30 Jan: Soldiers’ Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi today formally inaugurated the beautification work of the Shaheed Squadron Leader Abhimanyu Rai Memorial Park, constructed at a cost of Rs 17.47 lakh by the Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) in the Jaintanwala area under the Mussoorie Assembly constituency. On the occasion, the Minister also unveiled the newly installed statue of Shaheed Squadron Leader Abhimanyu Rai and paid floral tributes in his memory. Additionally, the foundation stone was laid for a road construction project using interlocking tiles, to be built at a cost of Rs 26.99 lakh in Jaintanwala.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ganesh Joshi said that the life of Squadron Leader Abhimanyu Rai is an unparalleled example of patriotism, bravery, and devotion to duty. He stated that the memorial park will not only keep alive the sacrifice of the brave soldier but will also inspire future generations with the ideals of national service and love for the country. He added that the beautification of the park will provide a better public space for local residents and will benefit children and youth as well. Praising the work of the Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority, he said the government is continuously working toward strengthening basic infrastructure in the region.
The Minister further said that the state government is running various welfare schemes for the dependants of martyrs, ex-servicemen, and retired military personnel. He emphasised that soldiers and veterans are the pride of the nation, whose sacrifice, dedication, and discipline ensure a safe and strong India. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government is taking continuous and concrete steps for the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their dependants. He noted that the honorarium and award amounts given to soldiers have been increased several times, enhancing the dignity accorded to martyrs and brave soldiers. He also highlighted the sensitive and historic decision of the Dhami government to provide government jobs to the families of soldiers who attain martyrdom while defending the nation at the borders. He added that the grand Sainik Dham being constructed in Dehradun in honour of soldiers will be inaugurated soon. The Minister reiterated that the state government remains fully committed to the welfare of soldiers and their families. On this occasion, he also announced the construction of 2 km of drains and roads in Gram Panchayat Hariyawala Khurd, Jaintanwala Green Lawn Colony.
Among those present were Lt General AK Singh, Major General ML Aswal, the martyr’s father, Group Captain Amitabh Rai, mother Chitralekha Rai, grandmother Malti Rai, Sandhya Thapa, MDDA engineer Atul Gupta, Gram Pradhan Manju Panwar, Deputy Director Soldiers’ Welfare Fund Badhani, Wing Commander Bhumika, Sagar, Rajni Devi, Nain Singh Panwar, and several other dignitaries and local residents.
