Dehradun, 17 Dec: State Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi today held a meeting with officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments at his camp office to conduct a detailed review of various schemes being run by the Central and State Governments. During the meeting, he issued necessary directions to ensure effective implementation of these schemes.
The Agriculture Minister laid special emphasis on promoting tissue culture in the state and directed officials to establish one tissue culture laboratory each in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions. He said that tissue culture technology offers farmers opportunities for higher income with lower cost and risk. It will also prove to be an important step towards making agriculture modern, scientific, and commercially viable.
Minister Joshi instructed departmental officials to prepare a concrete action plan to promote tissue culture and motivate farmers towards crops that offer higher economic returns, thereby strengthening them financially. Highlighting the potential of the aroma sector, he stressed the cultivation of crops such as lavender and dandelion in hilly areas. He said that innovation-based initiatives should be undertaken by connecting more and more farmers to the aroma sector. He also emphasised involving private institutions doing excellent and innovative work in the agriculture and horticulture sectors with government schemes.
During the meeting, the Minister directed officials to promptly prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for establishing testing laboratories in the state to ensure that agricultural and horticultural products meant for export meet international standards, and to identify suitable land for the same. He also instructed that all necessary documentation related to the establishment of food processing units be completed at the earliest so that work can begin without delay.
Minister Ganesh Joshi stressed that all schemes must be implemented in a timely and effective manner. He urged officials to work with full dedication and commitment so that farmers receive the actual benefits of government schemes.
On this occasion, Director General. Agriculture and Horticulture, Vandana Singh, Director, Horticulture Mission, Mahendra Pal, AK Upadhyay, Joint Director Dinesh Kumar, and other officials were present.
