Dehradun/Rudrapur, 22 Jan: In a dramatic and distressing disclosure, Congress MLA from Kichha and former Cabinet Minister Tilak Raj Behad revealed that his son, Saurabh Raj Behad, had staged the recent reported attack on himself. Holding a press conference in Rudrapur today, Behad admitted that the incident, which initially appeared to be a life-threatening assault on his son, Saurabh Behad, turned out to be a conspiracy orchestrated by Saurabh with the help of his friend Inder, a local municipal councillor. The revelation has shocked the public. This has prompted Behad to issue a heartfelt apology to the people, his party, and friends from all political parties.
During the press conference, Behad explained that he began receiving information about the truth behind the “attack incident” late last night and by this morning, the information was confirmed. He stated that Saurabh had asked his friend and local municipal councillor Inder to fabricate an incident against him, and that Inder’s family had met him earlier in the day. Expressing anguish, Behad said that had Inder confided in him or his other son Gaurav earlier, the entire episode could have been prevented and his reputation spared. He apologised not only to his party and supporters but also to the families of those people who had been questioned by the police during the investigation.
The MLA acknowledged that leaders from various political parties from the Chief Minister down to his own party colleagues had extended sympathy to him when they heard of “attack” on his son. He lamented that he had never imagined his own son would betray his trust in such a manner and cause such a huge embarrassment to him. He attributed the dramatic act to Saurabh’s domestic disputes with his wife, noting that if his son had shared these issues, a solution might have been found. Behad further clarified that Saurabh had been separated from the household after marriage and had already received his rightful inheritance long ago and was living separately from him.
Overcome with emotion, Behad broke down in tears as he recalled that Saurabh had once donated a kidney to him, which had kept a bond alive between them despite their differences. Yet he declared that his son’s present actions were unforgivable. The Congress MLA announced that he would severe all ties with his son permanently. He said the betrayal had destroyed his public image and humiliated him before the people, leaving no possibility of reconciliation.
Sobbing, Behad questioned why such misfortune had befallen him, suggesting he might be suffering the consequences of some past deed. He reiterated his apology and expressed gratitude to the police for their diligent investigation, which had exposed the truth and prevented further damage.
It may be recalled that earlier reports had suggested that Saurabh Behad had become a victim of a violent assault by three masked men, leading to his emergency admission to a private hospital in Rudrapur. The incident had caused widespread unrest in the region, but the revelation that the attack was staged has left the public stunned and dismayed.
