
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government has decided to set up model Sanskrit villages in every district of the State which will help in strengthening efforts to propagate Sanskrit language among masses in Uttarakhand. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of the International Sanskrit Conclave in Haridwar on Monday. Dhami said that Sanskrit is not just a language but the foundation of culture, tradition, knowledge, and science, which played a crucial role in the development of ancient human civilizations. He said that Sanskrit has always been a source of inspiration for him and he studied Sanskrit until grade IX in school. The CM averred that many of the world’s languages have their roots in Sanskrit and all the ancient texts such as the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Ayurveda, Yoga, philosophy, mathematics, literature, science and astronomy were all written in Sanskrit, enriching India’s ideological heritage. He said that universities like Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila and Vallabhi disseminated Sanskrit based knowledge to the world, producing great scholars like Charaka, Sushruta, Aryabhatta, Bhaskaracharya, Chanakya, Brahmagupta and Panini. Sanskrit is not only a language of science, but also a language that conveys ethics, human values and global brotherhood, he said. The CM further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many meaningful efforts are underway to promote the Sanskrit language in the country. The new education policy places special emphasis on establishing Sanskrit as a modern and practical language. Initiatives such as e-Sanskrit learning platforms, mobile Apps, and online literature availability are making Sanskrit accessible to the new generation in a simple form. Citing the example of Mattur village in Karnataka, he stated that Sanskrit can still become a language of daily life. He added that the Central government’s recent initiative to translate Lok Sabha proceedings into Sanskrit is also an important step in this direction. Dhami said Uttarakhand has been a centre of Sanskrit for centuries and the State government has granted Sanskrit the status of the second official language. He said that various programmes like All India Research Conference, Veda Conference, Astrology Conference, Sanskrit Teacher Skill Development workshops and student competitions are being continuously organised by Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy. Former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, MLA Aadesh Chauhan and Pradeep Batra, Swami Yatishwaranand, Union Foreign secretary Meena Malhotra, secretary Sanskrit education Uttarakhand Deepak Gairola, vice chancellor Sanskrit University Dinesh Chandra Shastri and others attended the programme.
