Dehradun, 8 Apr: The ttarakhand Government has intensified the preparations for a grand road show and rally for the proposed Uttarakhand visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 April. In this regard, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the officials to arrange for grand programmes including the cultural events. The inauguration of the Dehradun–Delhi Economic Corridor, also known as the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, will be marked by traditional shankhnaad and ghantanad, with elaborate preparations being made to give the programme the character of a grand public celebration rather than a routine inauguration ceremony. The PM is expected to land in a chopper at Ganeshpur in district Saharanpur, UP, and then travel by road in the form of a road show up to Dehradun in between offering worship at the revered Daat Kali Temple upon arrival. All along, the road, people and particularly the BJP workers are expected to welcome him during the roadshow on his way to the public meeting venue at Garhi Cantt, with the entire event being designed as a blend of development and cultural pride reflecting the ethos of the state.
Apart from inaugurating the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, the PM is also likely to inaugurate some other projects on virtual mode and make some announcements, in view of the fact that the state will go to the polls early next year.
Official sources say that the state government is making concerted efforts to present the occasion as a major cultural event showcasing Uttarakhand’s rich heritage, with traditional Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari folk dances and music forming a central part of the programme, while the venue itself is proposed to be decorated in a distinctly traditional style so as to offer visitors a glimpse of the authentic identity of the state. Local artistes are also being given an opportunity to perform, ensuring wider participation and providing a platform to display regional talent, thereby making the event both a symbol of infrastructural progress and a celebration of the state’s cultural legacy.
Dhami has observed that the expressway project would prove to be a milestone in the development trajectory of Uttarakhand, significantly boosting tourism, employment and trade, while also reducing travel time between Delhi and Dehradun in a substantial manner and improving overall connectivity with the national capital region.
Meanwhile, political activity in the state has intensified ahead of the Prime Minister’s proposed visit, with the BJP gearing up organisationally and mobilising its cadre at all levels to ensure a large turnout at the public event.  Officially the event is a government organised event not a political rally of the BJP.
Commenting on this BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt said that the Prime Minister shares a deep emotional connect with Uttarakhand and that the party is fully engaged in preparations for his visit on April 14. He noted that each visit of the Prime Minister to the state has historically been accompanied by significant developmental announcements and expressed confidence that the inauguration of the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway would mark another major milestone in strengthening the state’s infrastructure.
From a political perspective, the visit is being viewed as significant in the backdrop of upcoming electoral considerations and ongoing development initiatives, with the party likely to use the occasion to highlight the government’s achievements and outline its vision for the future, even as the inauguration of the expressway is being positioned as a major step towards accelerating economic growth and connectivity in the region.
