my uttarakhand news | DEHRADUN Polling for 100 urban local bodies went off largely peacefully in the State amidst reports of some minor confrontations in parts of the State on Thursday. The overall voting percentage recorded till 4 PM was 56.81. The final polling percentage was expected late at night and likely to be revised on Friday. In the elections held for 11 municipal corporations, 43 municipal councils and 46 Nagar Panchayats, Rudraprayag district with five ULBs had the highest voting percentage at 62.72 while Dehradun with seven ULBs had the lowest at 51.56. The voting began at a slow pace with an overall 11.36 per cent being recorded by 10 AM. The voting percentage steadily increased to 25.70 at 12 PM, 42.19 at 2 PM and 56.81 at 4 PM. Though there were reports of alleged irregularities, minor confrontations between candidates and rival supporters along with the names of voters missing in some parts of the State, the polling was conducted peacefully without any major incident. The voting percentage in various districts till 4 PM was 56.01 in Almora with five ULBs, 57.71 in Bageshwar with three ULBs, 58.92 in Chamoli with 10 ULBs, 56.76 in Champawat with four ULBs, 52.1 in Pauri with seven ULBs, 55.34 in Pithoragarh with six ULBs, 53.63 in Tehri with 10 ULBs, 58.12 in Uttarkashi with five ULBs and 59.8 in Udham Singh Nagar with 17 ULBs. While Dehradun district with the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh, along with five other ULBs saw the lowest 51.56 per cent voter turnout, Rudraprayag district with five ULBs saw the highest 62.72 per cent till 4 PM. Similarly, Haridwar district with the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar and the Municipal Corporation of Roorkee along with 12 other ULBs witnessed 60.85 voter turnout, Nainital district with the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani and six other ULBs saw 55.03 per cent voter turnout till 4 PM.
