PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said that on issues like reservation, categorisation and uniform civil code, the society should work on the basis of authenticity and harmony. It is important to come out of a divisive mentality. He also stressed on an integrated policy and local involvement for conservation of Uttarakhand’s rivers and environment, while adding that the values of teachers are more important than the curriculum in education. Bhagwat was speaking at an event held here on Sunday to mark 100 years of the RSS. The RSS chief said that the Sangh cannot be understood by observing it from the outside. Stating that it is a widespread social power, he said that it is important to experience the work of RSS to understand it. The Sangh is not in competition with any organisation. The citizens will be empowered if the nation is strengthened while an individual will not be safe in his own country if the nation is weak, he said, while adding that the aim of the Sangh is to develop individuals as strong individuals build a strong society and nation. Bhagwat said that after a long historic journey, the world is now hoping once again to see Bharat in a leadership role. He exhorted the gathering to connect with the Sangh’s activities to make the society and nation stronger. On the subject of social evils and discrimination, he said that mentality is the basic reason for this, not the system. Discrimination will be eradicated only by a change in behaviour. Referring to technology in the digital age, he said that it is a tool and not the aim. Technology should be used with restraint and discipline. Stressing on the importance of giving time to the family, he said that humans cannot be sacrificed for technology. On the subject of who is a Hindu, Bhagwat said that it is one who works to unite. Devotion for the motherland is also essential. As the world understands power more than the truth, it is necessary to acquire power but it must be used within limits. On the question of population, he said that it must be viewed both as a burden and a resource while stressing on a well thought of policy implemented uniformly for all.
