Nikita Chand – Pithoragarh’s Dazzling Boxing Star

Pithoragarh, 7 May: Hailing from the serene hills of Pithoragarh (Badalu village), Nikita Chand has emerged as one of Uttarakhand’s brightest sporting talents.
With sheer determination, relentless hard work, and powerful punches, this young boxer is proudly carrying the name of her state and country on the international stage.
Renowned International Boxing Coach Bhaskar Bhatt recently introduced me to this promising athlete at his newly established Sankalp Boxing Academy in Pithoragarh.
Nikita regularly trains under his guidance, refining her skills and learning the finer nuances of the sport at the academy.
Nikita is a two-time Asian Junior Boxing Champion (Gold Medal), has won the Best Boxer title at the Youth World Boxing Cup, and Multiple National and International Gold Medals.
Standing in the 60 kg category, Nikita’s lightning-fast agility and rock-solid confidence define her style.
At first glance, one might think she weighs only 40-45 kg, but as Coach Bhaskar Bhatt explains, athletes from the mountains possess stronger bone density, making her a formidable force in her weight class.
From overcoming hardships and limited resources in the hills to shining on the national and international stage, Nikita’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
She is not only chasing her own dreams but also lighting the path for countless girls across the Himalayan region.
When asked if she would consider becoming a film heroine if offered a role, the humble and graceful Nikita smiled and replied, “First let me win Gold at the Olympics… then why not!”
With unwavering focus, she is determined to represent India at the 2028 Olympics and bring home glory.
