

Union Home Minister releases Centenary edition of ‘Kalyan’ at Gita Bhawan

Rishikesh, 21 Jan: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today participated in the centenary celebrations of the renowned monthly magazine Kalyan, published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur, at Gita Bhawan in Swargashram, here. Earlier on his arrival, the Home Minister was received at the Ved Niketan helipad and thereafter reached Gita Bhawan to participate in the programme organised to mark 100 years of the iconic publication.
In the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and revered saints, the centenary issue of the monthly magazine Kalyan and the Arogya Ank in its Gujarati edition were formally released during the event organised by Gita Press in Rishikesh. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Amit Shah expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Gita Press for giving him the opportunity to be present on the auspicious occasion of the release of the 100th year edition of Kalyan. He said that no person in India who has faith in Sanatan Dharma, no individual anywhere in the world who looks towards Indian culture for solutions to global problems, and no one who loves this land can be unaware of the Gita Press.
Reflecting on the journey of Kalyan, the Union Home Minister said the magazine has not merely propagated religion but has also paved the way for nation-building, cultural awakening and character building. He added that from the freedom movement to modern India, Kalyan has consistently kept alive the voice of Sanatan ideology. He remarked that the magazine did not change with time but instead guided time by providing direction.
Amit Shah said that no person in India or the world who has expectations from Sanatan Dharma, who looks towards Indian culture for solutions to the world’s problems, and who loves this land can possibly remain unaware of Gita Press. He said that revered Hanuman Prasad Poddar has, through Gita Press, been strengthening the flame of Sanatan Dharma for nearly 103 years. He inspired crores of people towards spirituality through devotion and, by walking this path, paved the way to Moksha. Shah said that Poddar renounced everything and dedicated his entire life to Gita Press. He further added that through Gita Press, Poddar has instilled unwavering faith and reverence for Indian culture in the hearts of every individual and every family.
He added that Gita Press does not operate for profit but for the purpose of building generations. He said that Gita Press has succeeded in reaching crores of people with noble literature in a self-reliant manner. He said that ‘Kalyan’ is making an effort to deliver the eternal flame of knowledge to every reader. Shah remarked that, today, a celebration of Sanatan consciousness is visible across the country, and ‘Kalyan’ has kept the lamp of Indian culture burning through every crisis. He said that ‘Kalyan’ is not merely a magazine but a spiritual guide for Indians in the world of spirituality. Among the many efforts to make India’s culture immortal, the name of ‘Kalyan’ magazine stands as one of the strongest. He said that in its 100 years, ‘Kalyan’ has worked to unite the virtuous strength of the followers of Sanatan Dharma. He added that those who truly know India cannot even fully evaluate the unparalleled contribution of Gita Press.
During the programme, the centenary edition of Kalyan was released, and it was stated that, so far, 17.5 crore copies of the magazine have been published. The Arogya Ank was also released, with its circulation having reached 2.22 lakh copies.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, speaking on the occasion, said the Union Government is continuously working towards building a self-reliant nation. He stated that the destructive forces such as terrorism and Naxalism no longer dare to raise their heads, and described this as the result of sustained efforts and firm leadership. He said the country is also making unprecedented progress in the field of cooperation, leading to the creation of a strong institutional framework for holistic development. Dhami said Gita Press has made an incomparable contribution over the past 100 years towards the preservation and promotion of Sanatan culture, sacred scriptures and the Indian knowledge tradition. He recalled that at a time when foreign powers were creating ideological confusion and misleading society, the Gita Press family undertook the historic task of publishing authentic and affordable editions of the Bhagavad Gita, Ramcharitmanas, Upanishads, Puranas and other great Sanatan scriptures, thereby awakening the Indian masses.
The CM said it was a matter of pride for everyone that the centenary issue of Kalyan was released by the Union Home Minister. He said the magazine has, for the past hundred years, not only worked to instill spiritual consciousness and Indian life values but has also made a significant contribution to the promotion of morality, ethical conduct and cultural awareness. Dhami added that the state government is continuously working to establish Devbhoomi Uttarakhand as the spiritual capital of the country and is committed to safeguarding cultural values and democratic traditions in the state.
He also described Gita Press, Gorakhpur, as not merely a publishing house but a social and cultural pillar for the dissemination of Hindu religious literature in India. Among those present on the occasion were Member of Parliament Anil Baluni, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, Cabinet Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, MLA Renu Bisht and several other distinguished personalities. After spending nearly two hours at the venue, Amit Shah left via Barrage Road to attend another programme scheduled in Haridwar.
