Mussoorie, 11 Jan: The state-wide bandh called with regard to the Ankita Bhandari murder case had no visible impact here on Sunday. Life in the city remained completely normal. The markets were bustling, and all shops remained open as usual. The movement of both locals and tourists continued without interruption. From morning onwards, business was seen to be thriving in Mussoorie’s major commercial areas, including Landour Bazaar, Library Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, and Kulri Bazaar. Hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related establishments also remained open, making it clear that the bandh did not receive widespread local support.Despite the call for a state-wide bandh, no political or social organisation actively attempted to enforce it in Mussoorie. There were no protests or demonstrations, nor were there any attempts to forcibly close shops. The police and administration remained fully vigilant, although no law and order situation arose. Local traders said that Mussoorie is entirely dependent on tourism, and a bandh during the peak season directly impacts employment and the livelihoods of ordinary people. This is why most traders kept their establishments open.It is worth noting that there had been a long-standing demand for a CBI investigation into the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Even after the Chief Minister ordered a CBI inquiry, the call for the state-wide bandh was not withdrawn, which led to intense discussions in political circles. Opposition parties maintain that not only should the investigation be ordered, but the process should also be conducted with complete transparency. The general public in Mussoorie believes that the culprits should receive strict punishment, but measures like a bandh cause hardship to the local population. The normal flow of tourists also made it clear that Mussoorie maintained its economic and social balance despite the emotionally charged issue.
