It remains a Union Territory since 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Abdullah. This is his second term as chief minister. Five ministers were also sworn in along with Abdullah. Among the Congress leaders present were Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra aside from SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Left leaders Prakash Karat and D Raja, DMK’s Kanimozhi and NCP’s Supriya Sule. Besides, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also attended the event. The National Conference won 42 out of the 90 seats in the recently held elections while alliance partner Congress bagged six. Congratulating Abdullah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated said that the Centre would work closely with him and his team for J-K’s progress.
