Gairsain, 10 Mar: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satpal Maharaj today informed the House on the second day of the ongoing budget session being held here that more than 7,000 kilometres of roads across Uttarakhand have been made pothole-free by the Public Works Department (PWD). This has been achieved following directions issued by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in this regard.
According to Maharaj, the PWD department had undertaken an extensive drive to repair damaged stretches and remove potholes from roads across the state. During the financial year 2025–26, the department made 3,134 kilometres of roads pothole-free before the onset of the monsoon season. After the monsoon, further repair works were carried out and by November 10, 2025, an additional 4,149.17 kilometres of roads had been made pothole-free.
The data presented in the House indicated that during this period alone more than 313 kilometres of roads were made pothole-free in Haridwar district. The initiative was undertaken as part of the state government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure and ensure smoother and safer travel for residents and visitors.
Maharaj further informed the House that significant progress had been made in strengthening rural infrastructure through the construction and reconstruction of Panchayat buildings across the state. During the four years of the second tenure of CM Dhami, a total of 819 Panchayat buildings have been constructed or reconstructed in Uttarakhand.
According to the details provided to the House by the Panchayat Raj Minister, the state currently has 5,867 Panchayat buildings. Out of these, as many as 1,134 buildings had been lying in a dilapidated condition for a long time. In view of the deteriorating condition of several buildings, the CM had directed the Panchayati Raj Department to launch a special campaign to rebuild and repair such structures.
Following these directions, the department undertook construction and reconstruction works on a large scale and has completed work on 819 Panchayat buildings over the past four years, while work on the remaining buildings is continuing. This information was shared in the House on Tuesday during Question Hour by Panchayati Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj.
Meanwhile, the state government also informed the Assembly that work on ropeway projects aimed at improving connectivity to major pilgrimage destinations in Uttarakhand was progressing steadily. Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj informed the House that the department had already begun the operations of a ropeway project from Kaddukhal to Surkanda Devi Temple under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
In addition, the minister informed that the ropeway project from Thuligad to Purnagiri Temple in Champawat district is presently under construction under the PPP model. The government is also developing a ropeway project from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple in Uttarkashi district in PPP mode.
At the same time, the process for construction of ropeway projects from Gaurikund to Kedarnath and from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib is also moving forward as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen connectivity to important pilgrimage centres and boost tourism in the state.
