Painting Workshop & Exhibition inaugurated in Almora

Almora, 11 Dec: A seven-day National Painting Creation Workshop and Exhibition was inaugurated in Almora on 8 December. Eighty paintings in acrylic and oil on canvas were created by artists from across India, including student artists and faculty of visual artists, on the life and work of Uday Shankar. These were beautiful works painted by mostly young artists from Uttarakhand and participating artists from surrounding and far-off states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and others.
Vice Chancellor of SSJ University Prof Satpal Singh Bisht inaugurated the exhibition at the Uday Shankar Music and Dance Academy, Falsima, Almora.

After the exhibition, cultural programmes were performed by the faculty and students of Bhatkhande School, Almora. The certificates and mementos were distributed to participants.  Coordinator Professor Sonu Dewidi ‘Shivani’ highlighted the theme and objectives of this programme.
Appreciating the organisers’ initiative, vision, and thought, Vice Chancellor Prof Satpal Singh Bisht said, “The faculty and students are working hard to establish the Department of Visual Arts at the University. Many events, such as International Conferences and Exhibitions, have been held in the past and have been well received both within and beyond the country. Today, this event is recorded and preserved for the future through these valuable visuals. We shall also forward this book of artists’ work to Governor Gurmit Singh, and the Chief Minister, to promote art and culture through our University.”

In his presidential address Professor Shekhar Chandra Joshi, Dean, Faculty of Visual Arts in Soban Singh Jeena University Campus, Almora, who is also a renowned Nakhakshat artist, academic leader, and cultural exponent whose work spans teaching, research, exhibitions, and cultural advocacy, said this academy can be a source of pride worldwide for Almora. He recalled APJ Abdul Kalam, who laid the foundation stone. On that day, a portrait of Kalam was presented to him by the Professor using Nakhakshat) technique.
