Pantvarsity scientists compete to launch new projects

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Pantnagar, 12 Jun: There is a strong enthusiasm among scientists to transform GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology into a research-focused institution of higher learning.  University scientists have submitted 30 projects worth over Rs 100 crore under the Anushasan National Research Foundation (ANRF) of the Government of India.  These projects include projects in agriculture, veterinary medicine, science and humanities, technology, community science, and fisheries.  Most of these projects are multidisciplinary and multi-institutional, with scientists from various disciplines collaborating to work on untouched areas of science.
It is worth noting that to encourage high-level research, the Government of India has established the ANRF, chaired by the Prime Minister, under which an investment of 50,000 crore rupees is planned for high-level research in the country by 2028.
Prof Shivendra Kumar Kashyap, Vice Chancellor of Pantnagar University, stated that the submission of thirty ANRF projects, in the university’s efforts to establish research excellence, exemplifies the scientific acumen and drive of Pantnagar scientists. He added, “Our direct goal is to ensure that our research aligns with the needs of farmers and industries, and that each scientist receives two to three research projects.” Referring to the university’s efforts, he said that a planning team has been formed to identify potential projects for scientists across the university and to explore new possibilities by contacting funding agencies and industries.  He added that, in this direction, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has also secured a Technology Enabling Centre Scheme (DST-TEC), which will work towards the commercialisation of technology.  He described this project as a major opportunity for the university.
