Bageshwar, 10 Feb: In line with the vision of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to promote adventure tourism in Uttarakhand, the remote mountainous region of Kapkot is now firmly emerging on the national map as a major adventure tourism destination.The five-day National Accuracy Paragliding Championship started on 5 February in Bageshwar district and has transformed this peaceful rural area into a key attraction for adventure enthusiasts from across the country.Throughout the event, the skies over Kapkot remained vibrant with colourful paragliders taking off from the hills of Jalekh, creating a festive and exhilarating atmosphere. A total of 92 pilots from various states registered for the competition, out of which 78 participants showcased their skills. The presence of thousands of local spectators and tourists clearly demonstrated the tremendous enthusiasm for adventure sports in Kapkot.The competition was inaugurated by District Magistrate Akanksha Konde and local MLA Suresh Gadiya. Describing it as a historic initiative for Bageshwar, the District Magistrate stated that such events not only promote tourism but also strengthen the local economy and create new employment opportunities for the youth.From the opening day to the grand finale, the competition remained full of excitement and high spirit. Experts believe that Kapkot’s geographical terrain is highly suitable for paragliding, trekking, and other adventure sports. Technical training and safety guidance sessions were also organised for the participants, further enhancing the professional standard of the event.During the closing ceremony, District Magistrate Akanksha Konde herself experienced the thrill of paragliding by taking a flight from Jalekh. She remarked that “Kapkot–Bageshwar has now been established as a new destination for adventure tourism. Continuous efforts will be made in the future to bring it recognition at the international level.”In the competition, Manish Upreti secured the first position and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, while Manish Bhandari won the second prize of Rs 50,000 and Pankaj Kumar received Rs 30,000 for securing third place. Women pilots were also honoured with special incentive awards.The success of this event has delivered a clear message—Kapkot, once considered a quiet rural region, has now evolved into an emerging adventure tourism hub of the country. With its natural beauty, favorable geographical conditions, and proactive administrative initiatives, the region is rapidly moving toward becoming a major adventure destination of the future.
