

Union Minister inaugurates Saansad Khel Mahotsav in Pauri

PAURI, 13 Dec: Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the Saansad Khel Mahotsav at Kandoliya ground in Pauri district here on Saturday. He called for strengthening the sports culture among the youth, stating that sports serve as an effective medium for nation-building. The Minister affirmed the Central government’s commitment to developing Pauri as a high-altitude sports hub. He added that the Saansad Khel Mahotsav would provide a fair and transparent platform for young talents.
Mandaviya added that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the sports culture in the country is being strengthened at the grassroots level. He expressed confidence that talented athletes emerging from this festival would represent India in international competitions, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games, in the future. Mandaviya stressed that a victory on the sports field represents not just a win for an individual athlete but for the entire nation.
The Union Minister also shared that a study on sports gap analysis across the country is underway, with Pauri district to be specially included in this exercise for the development of sports infrastructure. Adopting a positive approach towards demands put forth by Pauri Garhwal MP Anil Baluni, the Minister assured that every possible effort would be made to develop sports infrastructure, keeping in mind the geographical conditions of the high-altitude region. He also revealed that a synthetic athletic track is being constructed in Joshimath at a cost of Rs 8 crores, which will provide modern training facilities to athletes in the area.
Garhwal MP Anil Baluni termed the Saansad Khel Mahotsav as a matter of pride for Pauri district. He said the event realises the Prime Minister’s vision of identifying and providing opportunities for talented youth to advance. Baluni pointed out that India has had the opportunity to host the Commonwealth Games and has also bid to host the Olympic Games, which shows the country’s growing stature in the sports sector.
Baluni further stated that Pauri district is an ideal location for high-altitude training, with athletes from various states across the country coming here for practice. On this occasion, he requested the Union Minister for Central government support in developing the entire area as a Centre of Excellence, establishing a swimming institute, and upgrading Auli to an international-level sports platform to promote winter sports.
