Dehradun, 10 Feb: In line with the clear directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to promote planned, balanced and sustainable urban development in Uttarakhand, the Housing Department has claimed to be taking consistent and concrete steps to strengthen urban planning across the state. In this regard, a review meeting of the Town and Country Planning Department was held at the Secretariat here today under the chairmanship of Secretary Housing Dr R Rajesh Kumar, with a particular focus on the draft Haridwar and Roorkee Master Plan–2041 being prepared under the Government of India-funded AMRUT 1.0 scheme.
During the meeting, extensive deliberations were held on the various provisions of the master plan, keeping in view the long-term development needs of the Haridwar and Roorkee regions. Key aspects such as land use planning, balanced development of residential and industrial zones, traffic management, infrastructure expansion, environmental protection and strengthening of public amenities were examined in detail. During the review meeting, Chief Town and Country Planner Shashi Mohan Srivastava presented comprehensive information on the draft master plan and apprised the Secretary Housing of the progress made so far, along with the proposed future course of action.
It was shared at the meeting, that the public hearing process for the draft Haridwar and Roorkee Master Plan–2041 has been successfully completed. Around 350 suggestions and objections were received for the Haridwar Master Plan, while approximately 550 suggestions and objections were submitted in respect of the Roorkee Master Plan. The meeting focused on the systematic and point-by-point disposal of these representations. The Secretary Housing issued clear directions that every suggestion and objection received from the public must be examined with seriousness, transparency and strictly in accordance with the prescribed rules, so that the final master plan remains practical and aligned with public expectations.
During the meeting, Secretary Housing Dr R Rajesh Kumar stated that under the leadership of CM Dhami, the state government is fully committed to developing Uttarakhand’s cities as modern, well-organised and future-ready urban centres. He said the objective of the Haridwar and Roorkee Master Plan–2041 goes beyond physical expansion and includes environmental conservation, efficient traffic systems, strong infrastructure and an improved quality of life for citizens. He emphasised that the feedback received through public hearings has been taken seriously to ensure that the master plan addresses ground realities and genuine public needs.
Kumar further directed the officials of the Town and Country Planning Department to ensure timely completion of all remaining formalities so that the Master Plan–2041 can be finalised and submitted for government approval at the earliest. He added that effective implementation of the master plan would play a vital role in shaping Haridwar and Roorkee into well-planned and modern urban centres in the years ahead.
