
PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun Preliminary preparations for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have started in Uttarakhand. Interacting with the media persons the State’s chief electoral officer (CEO) BVRC Purushottam said that the Election Commission of India has so far conducted SIR of electoral rolls 11 times during the past years. He informed that in Uttarakhand, the SIR was conducted in the year 2003. Purushottam said that this year the SIR was conducted by the ECI in the first phase in Bihar and that it is underway in 12 other States. The objective of the exercise is to ensure that the name of every eligible voter is included in the electoral rolls, he said. The CEO informed that in the pre SIR phase, the voters upto 40 years of age whose names were there in the voter list of 2003, will be mapped directly through BLO App . Additionally, the voters who didn’t figure in the voter list of 2003 and are 40 years of age and above will be mapped on the basis of their parents and grandparents, as progeny. The voter list of 2003 can be searched on www.ceo.uk.gov.in and www.voters.eci.gov.in. In the Press conference, the CEO appealed to the political parties to appoint their booth level agents (BLAs). He informed that as of now only 4,155 BLAs are appointed against 11,733 booths in the State. The CEO further said that all the district magistrates, ROs and BLOs have been directed to ensure their reach among the electorate. He said that help desks at the level of district and RO will be set up to help the voters.
