PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal told medical officers and other officials to treat this as the worst year for dengue and malaria. He said that all doctors and municipal staff must be ready for the situation. Bansal said this during a meeting on Sunday which was focused on the prevention of dengue and other waterborne diseases in Dehradun at a time when 21 cases of dengue have been reported in the district so far. The DM directed the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to ensure complete cleaning of rivers, canals and drains across the city by May 15. He also gave specific instructions to target high-risk areas and use larvicidal spray using 20 tankers, increased from the previous count of five. One tanker will be assigned to each set of 10 municipal wards. Regular fogging is to be carried out in all wards. Bansal also approved an advance fund of Rs five lakh each for the MCD and the Health department. He instructed that the surge plan for hospitals be prepared and medical teams from remote PHCs and CHCs be ready to mobilise on short notice. Hospitals must ensure availability of rapid tests, ELISA kits, medicines, blood bank service and essential staff. Blood separator machines at Government Doon Medical College hospital will be increased from two to five, he said. The DM informed that a micro plan will be prepared for ward-level allocation of ASHA workers, door-to-door surveys and deployment of rapid response teams and volunteers. ASHAs will receive an additional incentive of Rs 1,500 from the district administration for surveillance duties, on top of Rs 1,000 from NHM and Rs 1,500 from the corporation. The administration will monitor dengue control activities, drain cleaning and awareness drives through a public Google spreadsheet. He directed MCD to conduct awareness meetings in all wards and initiate door-to-door campaigns. Heavy penalties will be imposed on commercial establishments, campuses and public areas if water stagnation is found. He said that rapid response teams, volunteers and control rooms will be activated immediately. The DM emphasised that no citizen should suffer due to lack of manpower, material or machinery. Government hospitals must be made fully functional so that economically weaker sections are not forced to rely on expensive private healthcare, he said. According to the district’s chief medical officer, Dehradun recorded 1,434 dengue cases in 2022, 37 cases each in 2023 and 2024 and 21 cases so far in 2025. A detailed micro-plan has been prepared to manage hospital-level arrangements for dengue treatment, as per the CMO.
