DEHRADUN, 13 Jun: Dehradun is set to receive a gift that will not only enhance the beauty of the city but also provide it with a new identity. President Droupadi Murmu, who is in Dehradun on a two-day visit primarily to attend the Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy, also inspected her dream project, the President’s Garden here on Saturday. The project, which is expected to redefine the cultural and tourism landscape of Uttarakhand, is progressing rapidly and is likely to be completed by November.

District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan on Saturday confirmed that President Murmu has inspected the under construction garden project, which is called President’s Garden in addition to reviewing the passing out parade. This project to upgrade the property earlier known as President’s Ashiyana are now being redeveloped as Rashtrapati Niketan, Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashrapati Udyan (Gardens)  and are considered to be her dream projects.

Despite inclement weather and strong winds limiting her time at the site, the President took detailed updates on the development works. She sought feedback from officials regarding the pace of construction, quality standards and adherence to timelines, signalling her close personal interest in the project’s progress. The foundation stone for the President’s Garden was laid in June 2025, and since then construction has been carried out in phases with strict instructions to complete the work on time. The Central Public Works Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing this ambitious project.

It may be reminded that spread over nearly 132 acres, the garden is being designed as one of Uttarakhand’s most modern and well-equipped projects. It will offer to the visitors a blend of nature, culture, recreation and wellness facilities at a single location. DM Ashish Chauhan said that construction is advancing swiftly and expressed confidence that the project will be ready by November. He added that the President has been deeply involved, issuing directions from time to time, and the work is being carried forward accordingly.

The President’s Garden is not merely a park but a major step towards giving Dehradun a new identity. It is expected to boost tourism, generate employment, strengthen the local economy and provide a vibrant platform for cultural activities. If completed within the stipulated timeframe, the people of Dehradun and Uttarakhand will receive a significant gift by the end of this year.
