Roorkee, 10 Feb: The Department of Commerce and Finance at Quantum University recently concluded ‘Budget Conclave ’26’, a two-day academic event that encouraged students to closely examine the Union Budget 2026 and its wider impact on the economy, industry, and academia.
Held on 9-10 February at Harmony Hall, F-Block, the conclave was designed to move beyond textbook learning. Instead of simply reading budget headlines, students were asked to break them down, question them, and understand what they actually mean in practice.

The event began with the first phase on 9 February, during which student teams presented their initial analysis of the Union Budget 2026. A total of 13 teams, each comprising two to three students from different departments, participated in the preliminary round. Every team was given 7 to 8 minutes to present key budget highlights along with sector-wise implications.
The presentations were evaluated by an internal panel of faculty members based on clarity, depth of analysis, relevance, teamwork, and time management. After careful assessment, four teams were shortlisted for the final round.
The second phase took place on 10 February at Harmony Hall and marked the main conclave event. The programme began with a formal welcome of the guests, followed by the lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana, and the National Anthem. The shortlisted teams then presented their refined and detailed budget analysis before an expert panel, demonstrating a strong grasp of fiscal policy, taxation reforms, and economic priorities.
Following the student presentations, an expert panel discussion was held featuring Tapas Chakraborty, Assistant Commissioner, CGST, CA Pratiyush Jain, Prof Dr Vivek Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Quantum University, and Dr Manish Srivastava, Director, Quantum School of Business. The discussion touched upon key aspects of the Union Budget 2026, including policy direction, sectoral focus, and implementation challenges.
The panel session turned interactive as students and faculty actively participated in a question-and-answer segment, making the discussion practical and engaging rather than theoretical.
During the valedictory session, the results of Budget Conclave ’26 were announced based on the final evaluation by the expert panel. The team comprising Harshit and Snehasish Sarkar from the Department of Law secured the Winner’s Position for their clear, well-structured, and insightful presentation. The First Runner-Up position was awarded to Tamanna Chaudhary, Sujit Biswal, and Rushal Sethi from the Department of Commerce and Finance, while Usha, Ashish, and Vansh from the Department of Business Administration secured the Second Runner-Up position.
Certificates were distributed to all participants in appreciation of their effort, preparation, and active involvement throughout the conclave.
The event was coordinated by Dr Pallavi Bhardwaj and Govind Singh, Faculty Coordinators from the Department of Commerce and Finance. The department also acknowledged the support of Dr Varsha Gupta, Coordinator, Department of Commerce and Finance, along with the entire organising team for ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
