Rahul Gandhi may visit U’khand to meet ESM and Agniveer families: Godiyal

my uttarakhand news Bureau
Dehradun, 22 May: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Ganesh Godiyal has claimed that senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Uttarakhand soon. He also indicated that Rahul Gandhi may tour the Pauri or Lansdowne region during his proposed visit. During the tour, he is also expected to interact with ex-servicemen and military families and address a public gathering on the issue of the Agniveer scheme.
During an informal chat with the media persons here, today, PCC President Ganesh Godiyal shared that the discussions regarding Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Uttarakhand visit are continuously being held with the party’s top leadership. He said the venue of Rahul Gandhi’s public meeting has not yet been finalised, but talks with the party high command are underway regarding his possible one or two-day visit to the state. Meanwhile, Congress state in-charge Kumari Selja is also scheduled to visit Uttarakhand once again.
Godiyal said Kumari Selja’s visit has been fixed for the first week of June. During this period, the party had also received indications from Rahul Gandhi’s office that he was keen to visit Uttarakhand. He said the PCC is in continuous touch with the central leadership regarding the proposed programme. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi is a top leader of the party and people across the world have started recognising that his statements and concerns have proved correct over time. He said Rahul Gandhi’s visit would boost the morale of party workers in the state and that Congress leaders and workers were eagerly awaiting his arrival.
Meanwhile, Congress Election Management Committee Chairman Harak Singh Rawat today stated that party has suggested to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) that, since Pauri is the headquarters of the Garhwal division, Rahul Gandhi should preferably visit either Pauri or Lansdowne. He added that a separate tour of Rahul Gandhi in the Kumaon region has also been proposed, although its dates have not yet been finalised. He said Rahul Gandhi is likely to undertake one-day visits each to Kumaon and Garhwal in the near future.
Harak Singh Rawat further said Rahul Gandhi may hold meetings with the soldiers and military families during his Uttarakhand visit. He said issues such as the Agniveer scheme and One Rank One Pension (OROP) are expected to figure prominently in his interactions and speeches. He also asserted that Rahul Gandhi’s visit would strengthen the Congress organisation at the grassroots level and energise ordinary party workers. He added that the visit would also help the party take what he described as the failures of the Centre’s policies to every corner of Uttarakhand.
