Rain alert in Uttarakhand; schools in these districts to remain closed on September 2 – my uttarakhand news

The monsoon is currently pouring heavily across Uttarakhand. Rivers and streams are in spate due to the rainfall, causing increased difficulties for the public. In light of the rainy conditions, the district administration is on high alert. Consequently, the administrations of Champawat, Nainital, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts have announced all public and private schools and Anganwadi centers to remain closed on September 2, 2026.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heavy rainfall in the state over the next 18 hours. According to the alert, there is a likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and intense spells of rain, from 3:58 PM on September 1 to 10:00 AM on September 2, 2026. This is expected to affect specific areas in Nainital and Almora districts, including Chaukhutia, Bhikiasain, Ranikhet, Bhanoli, Katarmal, Jaiti, Ramnagar, Bhimtal, Haldwani, Mukteshwar, Kotabagh, Bhowali, Dwarahat, and their surrounding regions.

In view of the ‘Orange Alert’ issued by the Meteorological Department and prioritizing student safety, the Nainital district administration has taken a significant decision. Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the district and the weather forecast, all government, semi-government, and private schools (Classes 1 to 12) will remain closed on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Additionally, orders have been issued to keep all Anganwadi centers in the district closed.
