More than 8 lakh farmers in U’khand receive benefit under 20th installment PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun A sum of 184.25 crore was transferred to more than eight lakh farmers in Uttarakhand as part of the 20th installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi on Saturday. This was part of the Rs 20,500 crore digitally transferred to 9.71 crore farmers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi on Saturday. Virtually participating in the programme held in Dehradun, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that PM Modi is making consistent efforts to double the income of farmers and improve their living standard. A sum of more than Rs 3,300 crore has been provided to farmers in Uttarakhand under the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme so far. Dhami said that various historic steps have been taken for the welfare of farmers since 2014 under PM Modi. The minimum support price on major crops was increased to ensure that farmers are getting an adequate price for their produce. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the farmers are being provided cover from natural disasters along with damage caused by crop diseases and pests. The soil health card scheme facilitates scientific testing of the soil in farms, based on which information about necessary soil nutrients is also provided to the farmers which has improved the quality of produce and soil productivity, he said. The CM further said that under PM Modi’s direction, the State government is consistently working towards ensuring the welfare of farmers. The State government is providing upto Rs three lakh interest-free loan to farmers. Upto 80 per cent subsidy is being provided under the farm machinery bank scheme to farmers for purchasing agricultural equipment. A provision of Rs 200 crore has also been made for building polyhouses as part of efforts aimed at increasing the income of farmers, Dhami said. He further said that the State government has implemented various schemes like the apple policy, kiwi policy, State millet mission and dragon fruit policy in the interests of the farmers. Farmers are being provided upto 80 per cent subsidy under these schemes in order to encourage horticulture. Agriculture minister Ganesh Joshi, MLAs Savita Kapoor, Brij Bhushan Gairola and others were also present on the occasion.
