Dehradun, 11 Feb: Sardar Bhagwan Singh University (SBSU) organised an awareness workshop here, today, to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with the objective of sensitising girl students about their legal rights and encouraging their confident participation in education, science, and society. The programme was organised in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dehradun.
Seema Dungrakoti, Secretary/Civil Judge (Senior Division), District Legal Services Authority, Dehradun, was the resource person for the workshop. In her address, Dungrakoti apprised the girl students about the provisions of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (POSH) Act, highlighting its relevance for students and young professionals. She also elaborated on the role of the District Legal Services Authority in providing legal awareness, counselling, and assistance to women and girls, enabling them to lead a safe, dignified, and fearless life.
Dungrakoti emphasised the importance of awareness of constitutional safeguards, legal remedies, and institutional support mechanisms available to women, particularly for those from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds. She encouraged students to pursue higher education and careers in science with confidence, assured of legal and institutional support.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which students actively engaged with the speakers on issues related to women’s safety, workplace conduct, and access to legal aid. Harish Kumar and Sachin Jain, Para Legal Volunteers, also interacted with the students and apprised them of various safety measures, grievance redressal mechanisms, and support systems available to address their concerns.
