PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun  The Dehradun district administration imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on Sunday in the Selaqui and State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL) industrial areas after recent labour protests and incidents of stone pelting. After Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal’s order, additional district magistrate Krishna Kumar Mishra issued the order with immediate effect. According to the administration, workers in some companies including Lightanium Technology Private Limited, Dixon Technology and Global Medicos, had been protesting over salary hike demands. During the protests, incidents of stone pelting were also reported, creating tension in the industrial areas. Officials said some anti-social elements were also trying to provoke workers by spreading misleading information through social media and other platforms. Following the situation, the local intelligence unit has been activated and additional police force has been deployed in Selaqui and SIIDCUL. Under Section 163, carrying weapons, sticks, rods, swords and other dangerous items has been banned in the area. The administration has also prohibited the collection of bricks, stones or objects that can be used in violence. Public meetings, rallies, demonstrations, sloganeering and use of loudspeakers cannot be organised without permission. Gathering of five or more people at public places has also been restricted. Processions using buses, tractor trolleys and other vehicles have also been banned. The administration warned that strict action will be taken against anyone damaging government property or violating the order. The order will remain in force until further notice.
