Dehradun, 10 Oct: Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib, nestled in the Himalayas in Chamoli, closed its portals for the winter today. The yatra, which began on 25 May 2025, offered spiritual solace and experience of natural beauty to millions of pilgrims and tourists.
The closing ceremony commenced with the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib, followed by kirtan by Bhai Maninder Singh, Hazoori Ragi of Shri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar. After the final ardas, Shri Guru Granth Sahib was taken to its winter abode in Govind Dham. A grand procession led by the Panj Pyare, filled with kirtan and chants of “Bole So Nihal, Sat Shri Akal”, created a divine atmosphere. Over 2,000 pilgrims witnessed the event, enhanced by the bright sunshine.
Shri Hemkunt Sahib, linked to Guru Gobind Singh, is situated at 15,200 feet above sea level. Known as “Lokpal”, it is revered for its serenity and sanctity. The snow-capped peaks, vibrant Valley of Flowers, and serene lake attract not only pilgrims but also tourists and trekkers, making it a unique destination.
Around 2.75 lakh pilgrims visited this year. Trust Chairman Narinder Jit Singh Bindra thanked them for braving weather challenges and ignoring social media rumours about disruptions, which were baseless. He urged pilgrims to visit with humility and faith in the Almighty and to contact local Gurudwaras for accurate weather and road updates instead of relying on social media. The ceremony was attended by CEO Sewa Singh, Manager Kuljit Singh, and Assistant Manager Monu Singh.
Chairman Bindra expressed gratitude to Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, DGP Deepam Seth, DM Sandeep Tiwari, and SP Sarvesh Panwar, along with the administration, police, and SDRF for their support. Brigadier Dhillon of the 418 Brigade and pilgrims from across the world attended, making the event a memorable one.
