These facilities, aimed at reducing the town’s chronic traffic congestion, mark the establishment of Uttarakhand’s first satellite parking systems at Hathipaon and Kincraig. The initiative, led by the Dehradun district administration, promises smoother travel for both visitors and residents. This was informed by Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal. He said that the shuttle service will feature vehicles in two categories. Larger options such as SUVs, Innovas, Scorpios and others will operate alongside sedans like Swift Dzire, Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Aura. These shuttles will run between Kincraig parking and Library Chowk, Kincraig parking and Picture Palace, Hathipaon and Library Chowk and Hathipaon Bend to Picture Palace-Mall Road. He said that after years of underutilisation, Kincraig parking is being revived and integrated into this new system, while Hathipaon will host a new parking facility. Following a tender process, the Kincraig Taxi Association was chosen by the Mussoorie Municipal Council to manage the shuttle services. Bansal said that the administration took the decision to launch these facilities after repeated public appeals to address the growing traffic problem in Mussoorie. During a public grievance hearing, locals urged the administration to take action. In response, the DM directed officials to expedite the creation of structured parking and shuttle systems. These efforts, carried out in coordination with the the municipal council are progressing rapidly. He stated that this initiative is expected to provide significant relief to tourists, elderly citizens, women and residents by ensuring a safe and convenient travel experience. The whole system in satellite parking will be digital which will ensure efficient parking system without any hassle even during peak tourist season. He informed that once operational, the satellite parking and shuttle services will help alleviate traffic congestion in Mussoorie, creating a more organised and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
