Dehradun, 6 Nov: As part of the state’s Silver Jubilee celebrations marking 25 years of Uttarakhand formation, the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttarakhand, in collaboration with Doon University, organised the State-Level Video Film-Making Competition titled “Silver Screen Stories”. The prize distribution ceremony was held on Wednesday at the University’s Conference Hall.Vinod Chamoli, MLA, Dharampur, attended the programme as Chief Guest, while Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Secretary, Higher Education, Government of Uttarakhand, was present as Special Guest. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Prof Surekha Dangwal, Vice Chancellor, Doon University.In the competition, Pawan Singh Samant of Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora, won the First Prize for his film, “Sanskriti, Uttarakhand ki Pehchan”. The Second Prize went to Manan Sharma of Doon University for “Uttarakhand ke Rachnakar”, while the Third Prize was awarded to Haider Ali of Graphic Era Hill University for his film “Aaina”.The films were evaluated by a jury panel comprising Anil Bharti, Jaidev Bhattacharya, and Prof Rajesh Kumar.Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Surekha Dangwal said that the young filmmakers had portrayed the culture, identity and emotional landscape of Uttarakhand with maturity and sensitivity. Chief Guest Vinod Chamoli lauded the creativity of the students and stressed the need for supporting youth-led cultural initiatives. Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha appreciated the efforts of the Higher Education Department and Doon University in encouraging creative expression as part of the state’s milestone year.The event was coordinated by Dr Nitin Kumar, while Sweta Rawat conducted the proceedings. A live webcast of the event was managed by students of the School of Media and Communication Studies, Doon University.Among those present were Registrar, Durgesh Dimri, Dr Suneet Naithani, Prof Harsh Dobhal, Prof HC Purohit, Prof Rajendra Mamgain, Prof Gajendra Singh, Prof Surendra Suthar, Prof Ashish Kumar, Dr Himani Sharma, Dr Ajeet Panwar, Aabshar Abbasi, Juhee Prasad, Sachin Panwar, Ashish Kala, along with faculty members and students of the university.
