PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun Accusing the Congress party and the INDI alliance partners of trying to create confusion in the public by opposing the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the objective of the SIR is to ensure updated, transparent and error-free voter lists. Interacting with the media persons at the side-lines of a programme organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan here on Saturday, the CM said SIR will help in ensuring the inclusion of every eligible citizen in the electoral rolls. He said that the Election Commission of India is a constitutional body and has an important responsibility to maintain the fairness and credibility of the electoral process. Questioning the double standards of the Congress party, the CM said that the SIR has been conducted in the past as well under the regime of the Congress. He claimed that the opposition of SIR by the Congress reflects its political desperation arising due to a series of electoral defeats faced by the party. “Congress is uneasy with its diminishing political ground. This is why it is attempting to create confusion and controversy even on issues related to public interests and transparency and in system and governance. Political opposition has its place in a democracy, but it is not appropriate to create unnecessary public distrust of constitutional institutions and democratic processes. Instead of spreading confusion, the Congress party should present its views based on facts,’’ he said. The CM averred that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving forward with a commitment to development, good governance and safeguarding national interest.
