Speaker lauds holding of ‘8th State Level Boxing Mahakumbh’ in Kotdwar

Kotdwar 29 Dec: The Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly and MLA from Kotdwar, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, attended as the Chief Guest the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the three-day 8th State-Level Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Boxing Mahakumbh, held at SG Garden, Kotdwar.
On the occasion, the Speaker expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Sports Minister Rekha Arya, stating that hosting a state-level sports event in a small city like Kotdwar is a matter of great pride. She was informed that a total of 180 junior boys and girls from all 13 districts of Uttarakhand participated in the competition.
She further stated that high-quality bouts were held in 13 weight categories each for girls and boys, where the players displayed excellent technical skills, discipline, and endurance.
Winners – Girls’ Category: 44–46 kg – Neha Valdiya, Champawat; 46–48 kg – Neha Valdiya, Champawat; 48–50 kg – Godavari, Pithoragarh; 50–52 kg – Tarunakshi Digari, Champawat; 52–54 kg – Diya Kathait, Pithoragarh; 54–57 kg – Bhumika, Bageshwar; 57–60 kg – Kashish, Nainital;
60–63 kg – Diksha, Nainital; 63–66 kg – Riya Joshi, Pithoragarh; 66–70 kg – Riya Toliya, Pithoragarh.
All these players won the State Champion titles in their respective weight categories with outstanding performances.
Winners – Boys’ Category: 44–46 kg – Dharmendra, Pauri; 46–48 kg – Karan, Pithoragarh; 48–50 kg – Vishal, Pauri;
50–52 kg – Anshveer, Pauri; 52–54 kg – Abhishek, Pauri; 54–57 kg – Lucky, Pauri;
57–60 kg – Pratyush, Pauri; 60–63 kg – Krish, Kashipur; 63–66 kg – Naitik, Dehradun; 66–70 kg – Yogendra, Udham Singh Nagar; 70–75 kg – Harshit, Tanakpur; 75–80 kg – Ansh, Kashipur; 80+ kg – Neeraj Singh, Nainital.
These players secured their positions at the state level by delivering impressive performances in closely contested finals.
Ritu Khanduri Bhushan congratulated and thanked the organising committee, referees, coaches, and teachers from various schools for the successful conduct of the event. She also expressed her appreciation to her MLA representative from Kotdwar, Kamal Negi, for coordinating with officials of the Boxing Association to ensure the smooth organisation of the competition.
On this occasion, Ghanshyam Puniya, Vice President, Boxing Association of Uttarakhand, addressed the players and recalled that former Chief Minister General Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri had taken an important decision to provide immediate appointment under the Uttarakhand Police quota to players who win gold medals while representing the country. He informed that 64 such sportspersons are currently serving in the Uttarakhand Police, which is a matter of pride for the state.
Those present at the closing ceremony were Ghanshyam Shyampuriya, Vishal Garg, Boxing Association President Mukherjee Nirvan, Mandal President Ashish Rawat, Hari Singh Pundir, Jaiveer Nautiyal, Gopal Kholiya, DS Bhatt, BS Rawat, Ritesh Adhikari, Kamal Negi, Naveen Tamta, District Sports Officer Jaiveer Singh Rawat, Stadium In-charge Shyam Singh Dangi, President, Boxing Association, Pauri, Ritesh Adhikari, Councillor Jaideep Nautiyal, and Hari Singh Pundir, along with other dignitaries.
